The average value of rainfall for a day, month or a year (or any other suitable time interval) on the basis of record of last 30 years, is called normal annual rainfall.

Additional Information Amount of rainfall collected by a rain gauge station in last 24 hours is called daily rainfall and amount collected in one year is called annual rainfall. The average value of this annual rainfall over a period of 35 years is called average annual rainfall.

If the observed rainfall in any year < Average annual rainfall – that year is dry year (Bad year)

If the observed rainfall in any year > Average annual rainfall – that year is Wet year (Good year)

If the observed rainfall in any year = Average annual rainfall – that year is normal year
