Concept:

The power rating of a resistor: The power rating of a resistor is the specification given with a resistor that serves to tell the maximum amount of power that the resistor can withstand. At this value, the current is maximum through the resistor.

\({{P}_{rating}}=I_{rated}^{2}R\)

Calculation:

Given Prated = 0.5 watt

Irated  = 250 mA

\(R=\frac{{{P}_{rated}}}{I_{rated}^{2}}=\frac{0.5}{250 \times 250 \times (10^{-3})^2}\)

R = 8 Ω
