Concept:-

Curtin Hammett Principle:

  • It is applicable to reactions in which two substrates ( which are in equilibrium with each other) produce two different products.
  • The stereoselectivity of the reaction depends upon the relative energies of transition states not on the starting material.
  • Hammett reaction constant (ρ) and the Hammett substitution constant explains the effect of EWG and EDG on the intermediates of a reaction.

It follows the reaction

  • The Hammett reaction constant: It is also called the sensitivity constant which is used to determine the electronic strength between the reactant and the intermediate.

Explanation:-

  • If ρ= +ve, then the intermediate has more electrons than the starting materials.
  •  ρ=-ve,  then the intermediate has fewer electrons than the starting materials.

F3 Vinanti Teaching 29.05.23 D42

In equations A and B the conjugate acids are F3 Vinanti Teaching 29.05.23 D45 andF3 Vinanti Teaching 29.05.23 D44 respectively.

  • Here in the second case, the acid group is away from the benzene ring to which the ρ value is lesser than that of the aryl carboxylic acid group.

Conclusion:-

Hence option 3 is the correct option.
