उथली नींव में, नींव की गहराई उसकी चौड़ाई से कम या उसके बराबर होती है जबकि गहरी नींव में, नींव की गहराई उसकी चौड़ाई से अधिक होती है।

उथली नींव वह होती है जिसकी चौड़ाई गहराई से अधिक है।

यानी \(\frac{{Depth\;of\;the\;footing}}{{Width\;of\;the\;footing}} \le 1.0\)

एक गहरी नींव वह होती है जिसकी गहराई फुटिंग की चौड़ाई से अधिक है।
