Need for compensation of instrument
- Compensation is a technique used to compensate for errors produced during measurement.
- Compensation of the instrument improves the dynamic characteristics such as (i) Speed of response and Response time (ii) Lag (iii) Fidelity (iv) Dynamic error
- Out of the above four characteristics the Speed of Response and the Fidelity is desirable in a dynamic system, while Lag and Dynamic error are undesirable.
- The compensation of a second‐order instrument increases the damping ratio. By increasing the damping ratio oscillations are reduced in the system.
- If the time constant of a temperature measuring system is increased, the settling time decreases and it would deteriorate the frequency response of the system.
- The mean square value of a random signal can be found from a plot of its mean square spectral density against ω.
