- According to the Gujarat Judicial Service Exam Pattern, the preliminary exam is objective-based while the Main examination will be descriptive in nature.

- The total duration of the Prelims will be 3.5 hours. The Mains exam duration will be 6 hours, with 3 hours for each Paper 1 and Paper 2.
- Candidates who qualify the Prelims and Mains will be called to appear for the Viva Voce Exam conducted for a total of 50 marks.

Gujarat Judiciary Syllabus 2025 Prelims
The Gujarat PCS J syllabus is divided into two main papers.
- Paper 1 (Part A, Part B & Part C)
- Paper 2 (Gujarat Language Test)
Paper I covers various criminal laws such as the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act, along with special laws like the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act along with the General knowledege, reasoning, quantitative aptitude and more. Paper II is only for candidates who did not pass secondary and higher secondary with the Gujarati language.

The Gujarat High Court Civil Judge Syllabus 2025 for paper 1 is divided into 3 parts. While Part A and B are Law related, Part B will evaluate students on generic subjects including Reasoning, English, Computer Knowledge, Numerical Ability, etc. The Prelims Paper 2 is a Test of Gujarati Language Proficiency. Note –
Candidates must obtain minimum qualifying marks in order to qualify the Prelims and proceed to the Gujarat Civil Judge Mains stage. The following are the min. Qualifying scores for Prelims –
- 50% marks (Unreserved category)

Gujarat Judiciary Prelims Exam Pattern 2025
The Preliminary Exam for the Gujarat High Court Civil Judge recruitment is an objective-type test designed to assess candidates’ legal knowledge, aptitude, and general awareness. It serves as the first stage of the selection process, qualifying candidates for the Mains Examination based on their performance.
- The Prelims exam will be OMR-based and will consist of multiple-choice questions.
- 1 mark will be awarded for every wrong answer and a negative mark of 0.33 marks for each wrong/multiple answer.
- The language of the question paper of the Prelims Exam will be in English only.

The Gujarat Judicial Service Mains Exam will tentatively be conducted on 15th June 2025. The Mains Exam primarily focuses on domain-specific legal knowledge. Gujarat Judiciary Mains Exam Pattern 2025
The Mains Exam for the Gujarat High Court Civil Judge recruitment is a descriptive-type examination that evaluates candidates' legal knowledge, analytical skills, and drafting abilities. It consists of subjective questions covering various aspects of law, including procedural and substantive laws, requiring detailed written responses.
- The main written exam shall be of descriptive type.
- The language of the question paper of the main exam shall be English.
- However, they can give answers to the questions in Gujarati or English, if not instructed otherwise.

Candidates who qualify the Mains exam will be shortlisted for the Viva Voce test round. The following are the important points to note about the Viva voce exam –
- The Viva Voce Test shall be conducted for 50 Marks.
- The Viva Voce Test is conducted to judge the suitability of the candidate for the cadre by judging the mental alertness, knowledge of the law, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgment, skills, attitude, ethics, power of assimilation, power of communication, character and intellectual depth and the likes of the candidate.
- For being eligible to be included in the final Gujarat Judiciary Result, the Candidate must have obtained a minimum of 40% Marks in the Viva Voce Test.
