Maharashtra Public Service Commission conducts State Service Examination, also called Maharashtra Rajyaseva Pariksha. The Commission (MPSC) will release the official details of the MPSC Marathi syllabus & exam pattern. The MPSC examination syllabus will play an important role in preparing for the examination for those who wish to take Marathi as their optional subject. The candidates must clear three stages of the MPSC selection process, namely, Prelims, Mains, and Interview.

To perform well on the test, candidates need to make sure they have a well-defined, systematic preparation plan. The Maharashtra Public Service Commission has released the Marathi optional syllabus for the MPSC exam. Candidates can check the below-mentioned syllabus for the same:

Paper‐ I (subject code 1037)

Section A Language and Folk‐lore

  • Nature and Functions of Language (with reference to Marathi) Language as a signifying system: Langue and Parole; Basic functions; Poetic Language; Standard Language and dialect; Language variations according to social parameters. Linguistic features of Marathi in the thirteenth century and seventeenth century. 
  • Dialects of Marathi- Ahirani; Varhadi; Dangi.
  • Marathi Grammar- Parts of Speech; Case-system; Prayog-vichar (Voice). 
  • Nature and kinds of Folk-lore- (with special reference to Marathi) Lok-Geet, Lok Katha, Lok Natya.  

Section B History of Literature and Literary Criticism

  • History of Marathi Literature 
  • 1. From the beginning to 1818 AD, with special reference to the following: The Mahanubhava writers, the Varkari poets, the Pandit poets, the Shahirs, and Bakhar Literature. 
  • 2. From 1850 to 1990, with special reference to developments in the following major forms: Poetry, Fiction (Novel and Short Story), Drama; and major literary currents and movements, Romantic, Realist, Modernist, Dalit, Gramin, Feminist. 
  • Literary Criticism 1. Nature and function of Literature; 2. Evaluation of Literature; 3. Nature, Objectives and Methods of Criticism; 4. Literature, Culture and Society.

MPSC Marathi Exam Pattern 2023

The candidates appearing for the MPSC exam must be well aware of the exam pattern before beginning their preparations. The MPSC Exam Pattern is given in detail below:

Preliminary Examination

  • The MPSC preliminary examination will be qualifying in nature consisting of two papers.
  • This MPSC exam will be conducted for 2 hours for each paper.
  • There is a negative marking of ¼ th in the MPSC examination.
  • The MPSC Examination will be held in English and Marathi language.

Mains Examination

  • In the MPSC Mains Exam Paper 1 and Paper 2 are language papers which are Marathi and English which are of qualifying nature.
  • MPSC Papers 3 is an Essay Paper, and Papers 4, 5, and 6 are General Studies Papers having descriptive questions.
  • The total marks of the MPSC Written Examination is 1750 Marks and the Interview and Personality Test will consist of 275 marks.

Interview/ Personality Test

A Personality Test/ Interview Round is the last stage of the recruitment process to be conducted for 275 marks. The aspirants who secure the cutoff marks in the MPSC Mains exam will be called to appear for the Interview/ Personality Test.

-> MPSC has extended the date for online application fee payment. Candidates can now pay the fees online till 23 April, 2025. 

-> The revised exam dates for the MPSC mains exam were announced. The State services main examination 2024 will be held on 27th, 28th & 29th May 2025 as per the revised schedule. 

-> MPSC State service 2025 notification has been released for 385 vacancies. 

-> Candidates will be able to apply online from 28 March 2025 till 17 April 2025 for MPSC State service recruitment 2025.
