Question
Download Solution PDFIf the mass of the Sun were ten times smaller and the universal gravitational constant were ten times larger in magnitude, which of the following is not correct?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFConcept:
The acceleration gained by an object due to gravitational force. It's value on surface of earth is 9.8 m s-2.
Formula to calculate acceleration due to gravity is
\(g=\frac{GM}{R^2}\)
M-mass of the body, G-gravitational constant, R- distance from center of mass.
Calculation:
Universal Gravitational constant becomes ten times, then G' = 10 G
The acceleration due to gravity on Sun,\(g'=\frac{G'M'}{R^2}\)
Putting the values we get, \(g'=\frac{10 G(M)}{R^2}=\frac{ 10G(M)}{R^2}= 10g\)
So, value of acceleration due to gravity will increases
i.e. (3) is wrong option.
