Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFFleming's left-hand rule:
Fleming’s left-hand rule states that when current flows through a conducting wire (let it be along with middle finger of a left hand) and an external magnetic field applied in the perpendicular direction (along with index finger) then the thrust of the motor is the mutually perpendicular direction (along with thumb finger) to both current and magnetic field.
Fleming’s left hand is a visual mnemonic for electric motors to represent the direction of thrust of motor w.r.t to the direction of the current and magnetic field.
1) Fleming's left-hand rule is used for electric motors, while Fleming's right-hand rule is used for electric generators.
2) In an electric motor, the electric current and magnetic field exist (which are the causes), and they lead to the force that creates the motion (which is the effect), and so the left-hand rule is used.
