Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFExplanation
Given,
Liquid Limit (LL) = 42.5 %, Plastic Limit (PL) = 22.5%, Water content (w) = 30.5 %
we know,
a)Plasticity Index = Liquid Limit – Plastic Limit.
Plasticity Index = 42.5 - 22.5 = 20 % or 0.2
b) Liquidity Index
The Liquidity Index, IL is given as:
\({I_L} = \frac{{{W_n} - \;{PL}}}{{{LL} - \;{PL}}}\)
Where,
LL - PL = Plasticity Index
\({I_L} = \frac{{{30.5}\ - \;{22.5}}}{{{42.5} - \;{22.5}}}\) = 8/20 = 0.4
Ratio of liquidity index and plasticity index, = 0.4/0.2 = 2
