Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Two plates and three spoons cost Rs. 86
Cost of four plates and a spoon is Rs. 112
Calculation:
Let the cost of the plate be x and the spoon is y.
According to the question,
⇒ 2x + 3y = 86
⇒ x = \(\frac{86-3y}{2}\) → (1)
⇒ 4x + y = 112
⇒ x = \(\frac{112-y}{4}\) → (2)
Equating both equations, we get
⇒ \(\frac{86-3y}{2}=\frac{112-y}{4}\)
⇒ 4(86 – 3y) = 2(112 – y)
⇒ 344 – 12y = 224 – 2y
⇒ 10y = 344 – 224 = 120
⇒ y = 12
Cost of the spoon is Rs. 12
⇒ x = \(\frac{112-12}{4}=25\)
Cost of the plate is Rs. 25
Difference between the cost of a plate and a spoon = 25 – 12 = Rs. 13
Therefore, the difference between the cost of a plate and that of a spoon is Rs. 13.
Hence, the correct answer is option 2).
