• The species Palaemon serratus , also known as common prawns, are found in the Atlantic ocean, the Black sea, and the Mediterranean sea.
• They typically reside in rock crevices at depths of up to 40m and have a lifespan of 3–5 years.
• Their population peaks during the autumn season.
• Their body is laterally compressed and covered by a protective layer of chitinous exoskeleton.
• The body is divided into an anterior cephalothorax and a posterior abdomen.
• The cephalothorax is a fusion of the head and thorax segments.
• The carapace, a section of the exoskeleton, covers the cephalothorax and extends behind the eyes to form a rigid structure known as the rostrum.
• The rostrum of the serratus species is uniquely curved and bifurcated at the tip, differentiating it from other Palaemon species.
• Palaemon has five pairs of leg appendages, or pereiopods, used for walking.
• Another set of leg appendages, the five pleopods, are known as swimmers.
• The telson, or tail fan, is located at the end of the body and contains the organism's anus.
