What is Mission Innovation?

Mission Innovation is a global initiative to catalyse a decade of action and investment in research, development and demonstration. This is done to make clean energy affordable, attractive and accessible. This will accelerate the process of achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement and the routes to net zero.

History of Mission Innovation

Mission Innovation was launched at the 2015 COP21 climate summit in Paris, France. It was initiated by 20 countries, including the United States, China, India, and the United Kingdom. The goal of Mission Innovation is to speed up the development and deployment of clean energy technologies. This is by increasing public and private investment in clean energy research and development.

Mission Innovation members have committed to doubling their public investment in clean energy research and development over five years. They have also committed to working together to strengthen international cooperation on clean energy innovation.

Mission Innovation has made significant progress since its launch. In 2017, Mission Innovation members had exceeded their goal of doubling public investment. Mission Innovation has helped to launch many new international partnerships on clean energy innovation.
