Question
Download Solution PDFTo finish a work in 12 days, 8 workers are engaged. After 2 days, due to some urgency, the work is to be finished in next 2 days. How many more workers are to be engaged now to finish it on time?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Initial workers = 8
Total time to finish the work = 12 days
Work completed in 2 days = 8 workers
Remaining time to finish the work = 2 days
Formula used:
Work done = Workers × Time
Calculation:
Total work = 8 workers × 12 days = 96 worker-days
Work completed in 2 days = 8 workers × 2 days = 16 worker-days
Remaining work = 96 - 16 = 80 worker-days
Time remaining to finish the work = 2 days
Let x be the additional workers needed.
Now, total workers = 8 + x
Remaining work must be completed in 2 days:
⇒ (8 + x) workers × 2 days = 80 worker-days
⇒ 16 + 2x = 80
⇒ 2x = 80 - 16
⇒ 2x = 64
⇒ x = 64/2 = 32
∴ 32 more workers are to be engaged to finish the work on time.
